Continental Airlines is to expand the pilot of its Paperless Boarding Pass
system to three more airports. The system was launched in Houston in December
2007. It works by allowing passengers to receive their boarding passes
electronically, in the form of an encrypted bar code sent to a mobile phone or
PDA. These are then scanned at the airport by Transportation Security
Administration officials. |

Airlines will halt flights between Bakersfield and Guadalajara at least
temporarily starting next week, a company spokeswoman said Monday. High fuel
costs prompted the decision to suspend flights for 30 days while the company
re-evaluates the service, said Teresa Hitchcock, analysis and marketing manager
for Kern County Airports, adding that she learned of the suspension Friday. |

WASHINGTON - United Airlines and US Airways are in very advanced talks and
expect to announce within weeks that they are combining, two people familiar
with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Monday. Putting the two
carriers together would create an airline that would jockey with a combined
Delta-Northwest for the title of world’s largest airline.

TOKYO - Japan's top automaker Toyota Motor Corp. will invest $67.2 million in a
project to build the country's first passenger jet in more than three decades,
Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. said Wednesday.
The company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, was
established April 1 to build and sell the new Mitsubishi Regional Jet, or MRJ.
Initially capitalized at $28.8 million, it sought out additional investors to
accelerate development and boost global marketing efforts, Mitsubishi Aircraft

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued a draft after-the-fact "biological
opinion" about last year's destruction of three eagles' nests at and around the
Orlando Sanford International Airport. The destruction of their nests "did not
result in jeopardy to the species," the document said in its conclusion.
